High-Tech and Compassionate Family Dentist
We’ve been taught since childhood that brushing and flossing and twice-yearly checkups at a dentist, like Carter Reeves of First Impression Dental, are essential for the health of your teeth.
But did you know that good dental health is important for your overall health as well? In a 20-year study published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Health, researchers found a significant relationship between gingivitis (early-stage gum disease) and coronary heart disease (CHD) and cerebrovascular disease (CVD).
This means poor dental health can contribute to heart attacks and strokes.
Since then, gingivitis has been linked to premature and low birth-weight babies, rheumatoid arthritis, and even dementia.
We take this risk seriously at First Impression Dental for all our patients, children (ages 1 and up) and adults.
Family Dentist Serving Brambleton, Dulles, Sterling, Ashburn, Leesburg, Broadlands, Willowsford, Loudoun Valley 20147 and 20148.
We use high-contrast digital X-rays, including panoramic X-rays, and tiny intra-oral cameras to get detailed images of your teeth. We use the DIAGNOdent laser caries detection tool to check for tooth decay. We also check for any signs of gingivitis such as inflamed gums or bleeding.
Although traditional dental X-rays used a very small amount of radiation, digital X-rays use even less—by 40 to 60%—to get the detailed images that let us see more than we ever could.
Every treatment room has the latest technologies and our chairs are adjustable to make you as comfortable as possible.
We carefully check for any visible and palpable signs of oral cancer.
The Piezo ultrasonic scaler is equipped with different tips so that it can be used for general cleaning or for periodontal treatment. Using this technology assures our patients the most thorough dental cleaning available.
We can now offer OralDNA® tests to measure, evaluate, and monitor both periodontal disease and oral HPV.
- The bacterial test determines the specific bacteria causing your periodontal infection. This helps select the therapy that will work best to treat the infection.
- The genetic test can detect if you are more susceptible to severe gum infections. We can discuss revising your dental care routines to combat these infections.
- The OraRisk® HPV Salivary Diagnostic Test can determine if you have oral HPV, and if it is a strain that puts you at increased risk for oral cancers.
Laser therapy can be used to treat gum disease with less bleeding, swelling, and discomfort.
Arestin® is a topical antibiotic developed to help kill the dental bacteria that cause periodontal disease.
Dr. Reeves will discuss every treatment and diagnostic option with you, but it is always your decision and you’re in control at all times of your therapies.
We believe prevention is the most important dental treatment we can offer. Both children and adults can benefit from fluoride. Not only can it prevent cavities, it protects your fillings and crowns as well. The fluoride is applied as a varnish on the teeth. We can even offer different flavors for our choosy patients!
Dental sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth for extra protection against decay.
Education and prevention of dental decay and gum disease go hand-in-hand. We explain every procedure to our patients, and with high-contrast digital imaging technology, you can view your X-rays when we do. You’ll be able to see any decay or problems we detect.
